Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Mobile Applications
This section describes how we collect, use, and store data when you use the Discretion Underground mobile app for iOS or Android.
Data we collect through the App
Push notification token. When you install the App and allow push notifications, we collect a device token generated by Apple Push Notification service (APNs) on iOS or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) on Android. This token is used solely to deliver push notifications to your device.
Device identifier. We collect a platform-generated device identifier to associate your push notification token with your device. This identifier is not linked to your personal identity.
Platform type. We record whether your device is iOS or Android so we can route notifications through the correct service.
That is the entirety of what we transmit to our server from the App. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, or any other personal information through the App.
Data stored on your device
The App stores the following data locally on your device:
- Cached content — Menu items, events, hours, and venue information are cached so the App works offline. This data comes from our server and contains no personal information.
- Notification inbox — Push notifications you receive are stored on your device so you can review them later. You can delete individual notifications or clear all from within the App.
- Favorites — If you mark cocktails as favorites, those selections are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our server.
All locally stored data remains on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.
Third-party services used by the App
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) — Used to deliver push notifications. Firebase may collect device and app identifiers as described in Google’s privacy policy.
- Apple Push Notification service (iOS) — Used to deliver push notifications. Apple may process data as described in Apple’s privacy policy.
- Google Maps SDK (Android) — Used to display a static map of our venue location. The App does not access or transmit your device’s GPS location. Google may collect data as described in Google’s privacy policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics — Used to identify and fix app issues. Crashlytics may collect device model, operating system version, and crash logs. No personal information is included in crash reports.
Push notifications
Push notifications are optional. You can enable or disable them at any time through your device’s system settings or within the App. If you disable notifications, we retain your device token on our server but will not send you any messages. You can request deletion of your token by contacting us at the email address below.
Children’s privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Push notification tokens and device identifiers are stored on our server solely for delivering notifications and are not shared with any third party beyond the platform notification services (APNs and FCM) required to deliver those notifications.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Push notification tokens and device identifiers collected through the App are retained on our server until you request their deletion or unregister your device.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you use the App, you can request deletion of your device token and any associated data from our server by contacting us at [email protected]. All data stored locally on your device is automatically removed when you uninstall the App.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Push notification tokens collected through the App are transmitted to our server via encrypted HTTPS connections. Notifications are routed through Apple Push Notification service (iOS) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) to reach your device.
